School of Information Technology, King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang congratulates the undergraduate students of the school for winning the first prize along with 100,000 baht in the GeoHackathon 2025 competition at Thailand's largest space technology event, Thailand Space Expo 2025, under the theme “Visions from the Sky – From Ideas to Impact” organized by GISTDA, the Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (Public Organization) under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation, in collaboration with the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) and partners, held from October 16–18, 2025 at True Icon Hall, 7th Floor, Iconsiam, Bangkok.
The GeoHackathon 2025 competition aims to provide a platform for the new generation to develop algorithms, applications, models, or innovative services from THEOS-2 satellite data covering topics such as smart agriculture, environmental and disaster management, smart city development, and sustainable cultural tourism.
Team “Eyes on Edge” consisting of 3 members: Mr. Natthawat Suk-udom, Mr. Thatphon Lakamsai, and Mr. Thanakorn Rattaso (Third-year undergraduate students majoring in Data Science and Business Analytics, School of Information Technology, King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang) presented the project “Eye of the Starry Realm” which applied Deep Learning Segmentation techniques to separate road areas from surrounding terrain. Then, advanced mathematical tools such as Polygon Skeleton were used to translate the images into quantitative data, such as curvature, width, and pavement characteristics, identifying materials such as earth, asphalt, or concrete. After obtaining this data, it was compared with criteria from research and data defined by the Department of Highways on “Which road types are considered dangerous” so that the system could accurately and automatically identify risk points, reducing the survey time for agencies from 4 months to just half an hour.
